This last week saw Windows Live SkyDrive get released into open beta, changing its name from Windows Live Folders to its new incarnation. With it came a lot of new features; one of these was the ability to embed a link to a file or folder in your blog post or website. So I figured a plugin could be useful here for Windows Live Writer to give an easier way of embedding that code.
For this plugin, I decided that I would write it using Visual Studio 2008, so this is my first plugin to come straight from Microsoft’s new IDE, and with it came a couple of teething problems with the installer which are now resolved. So how does this plugin work? Well, you take the address of what you want to embed and put it straight into the plugin:
Choose how you want it to appear on your blog page and you’re set. Now, you might have noticed the Use iFrame option, this is for blog providers who do not allow the <iframe> tag within blog posts: if your blog doesn’t allow it, then uncheck it and it will put different code in, but will basically give you the same results.
As with my other plugins, I have also put this on CodePlex.

Exellent idea, but could use some improvement. I see no way to insert image just as an image, not iframe or a link. Also, it would be really cool if I could insert an image from my own computer and it would be automatically uploaded to SkyDrive. That feature would make your plugin *really* popular.I think that plugins should go to Windows Live Writer\\Plugins\\ folder?

Hi, both those suggestions are good, unfortunately though, neither are anything my plugin can do at the moment due to what\’s on offer from SkyDrive. If SkyDrive allows embedding an image directly, then yes, my plugin can be modified to allow that, same with uploading images to SkyDrive.As for where the plugins go, most will go into the folder you specified. Mine don\’t though. Hi, thanks for the nice work. I would suggest to include the ability of using proxy to access the net. Here\’s what I did before:
System.Net.WebClient webClient = new System.Net.WebClient();webClient.Proxy = System.Net.WebRequest.DefaultWebProxy;webClient.Proxy.Credentials = System.Net.CredentialCache.DefaultCredentials;webClient.Credentials = System.Net.CredentialCache.DefaultCredentials;It uses the default web proxy setting from IE and the default credentials to access the net. The same can be applied to WebRequest. The method is suited for with or without proxy settings.

Hi, I patch the source (all in frmBrowse.cs) to fix following issues:
– The plugin now use the default credential and the default proxy to access the net.
– Support Unicode folder names (SkyDrive use UTF8 to encode the URL)
